ADEPT – We Applied to AID4SME Open Call #2

Published: 2026. 10. 05. 8 min read

A few months ago, we submitted our first serious European funding application — to AID4SME Open Call #2, under Challenge C3.3: Battery production digital work instructions & skill capturing.

The project name: ADEPT – Adaptive Defect Expert & Process Traceability.

What was the idea?

In battery gigafactory production, camera systems already detect defects in real time. But when a defect appears in the electrode coating process, the correct corrective action almost always depends on the experience of whoever happens to be standing nearby. That knowledge lives in people's heads — not in systems.

ADEPT was designed to change that: an AI-based decision engine that takes a detected defect, performs structured root-cause analysis, delivers context-aware corrective guidance to the operator, and logs everything — with full traceability, adapted to each operator's skill level.

The methodology is grounded in World Class Manufacturing and Root Cause Analysis principles — both part of the Prysprove team's industrial background.

What happened?

We scored 10.50 out of 15 in the expert evaluation phase — well above the 9.00 threshold. One detail in the Impact criterion made the difference: we didn't cover all the challenge-specific KPIs explicitly required by the call documentation.

We didn't advance to the interview round — but the proposal was strong.

What did we take away?

A viable product concept, a detailed technical architecture, and the experience that in EU applications, details decide. We'll do better next time.

The ADEPT concept doesn't go into a drawer. AI-based operator decision support and shop-floor digitalisation remain core to where Prysprove is heading.
