What Were Yesterday's Results? The Morning Question Only a System Can Answer Quickly
The most important questions for any leader every morning:
What were yesterday's results? What do I need to solve today?
They sound like simple questions. If you have a system.
If you have a system
Target figures are available instantly from a good report. You can see straight away what wasn't achieved. No waffle, no "I'll look into it". There's transparency. And transparency means accountability.
If you don't have a system
All you have are verbal updates. You don't really know what's going on. Constant manual control and chasing people to find out where things stand. Huge time losses, for you and your team.
Nothing will pull you through without processes and a system. Unfortunately, not even AI.
What can you do to change this?
- Decide whether you want to change.
This is the first and most important step. If you don't want to change how things work today, that's a decision too. But then don't complain about the consequences.
- Identify what hurts most.
You don't have to fix everything at once. Pick the one area where you lose the most time, money or energy.
- Start small.
Don't roll out a large, all-encompassing system straight away, because it won't work. Build a simple spreadsheet and start shaping the process. Refine it in small steps.
- Once it's stable, lock it in.
When you haven't needed to touch the process for one or two months, it's time for the right tool: the software. That way you avoid disappointment and endless money being poured into the project.
The most important thing: the decision
Not everyone needs a shiny system, and it isn't right for everyone. But then don't act as if you can't live without one, or as if its absence is what's holding back your growth.
